Sun Valley, Idaho
Au Courant knows and loves Sun Valley, Idaho. It's rustic, yet culturally sophisticated and laid back, yet action packed. It's surrounded by unparalleled beauty - both in the snowy winter or during the long, warm days of summer. While our kids have now outgrown the bunny hill and the training wheels on the bike paths, there is still so much to do here that the adventures and activities never grow old.
There are horse drawn carriage rides through the snow, downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snow-shoeing in the winter. You can hike, fly fish, bike ride along the river or golf when the sun is out. For the brave, try skeet shooting at the Gun Club or paragliding off Mt. Baldy!
Sun Valley Lodge features 108 recently renovated rooms, a world-class spa, fitness center, several restaurants, an ice-skating rink and even a bowling alley. At the adjacent village, find unique shops like SQN Sport , where they sell their super chic fitness wear or The SV Opera House which shows feature films and a candy store with homemade treats. The Sun Valley Pavilion also offers world-class symphonies, ballet companies and concerts in the summer.
Knob Hill Inn is an European-style boutique hotel and the home of The Grille at Knob Hill Inn, serving some of the best fare in town. Favorites include the basket of hot popovers and honey butter and delicious fried chicken. In the summertime, be sure to book a table on the patio.
If you’re in Sun Valley, you have to eat at The Pioneer Saloon or as locals call it “The Pio” - huge aged steaks, grilled local trout and giant baked potatoes. Other favorites include dinner of local specialties at the Ketchum Grill and Christina’s for breakfast, lunch or take-out. The Kneadery is a must for the biggest breakfast – and stuffed bear – you can find!
Don’t miss out on great shopping in Sun Valley. The must visits include:
Steve Eich Antiques and Gallery for Western and Indian artifacts
Jensen Stern Joaillier for custom Franc Mueller watches and fine contemporary jewelry
Bellisimo for wonderful gifts and a nice selection of Astier
Allison Speer, PR and marketing guru of San Francisco and true fashionista, recommends Grumpy’s - her order is a fowl burger and a schooner! They have the coldest beer in the Valley!
