Veil Paintings

A veil is a barrier, a curtain between two things, something that you can look at and pass through, it’s solid yet invisible and reveals and yet obscures the truth, the thing that we are searching for.

—Damien Hirst

Damien Hirst has a new body of work up at Gagosian Beverly Hills. Dabs of impasto paint create soothing, meditative fields – or veils – of color. This body of works is a serious departure from his spin art paintings, pill cabinets and the conceptual sculptures at the Venice Biennale “Treasures of the Wreck of the Unbelievable.” His exhibit closes April 14th, so you'll want to be sure to see it as soon as possible.
