Museum Exhibits to Look Forward to
Los Angeles museums are awaiting approvals to safely reopen but that doesn’t have to stop us from seeing fresh art in our city. Here are some exhibits you can look forward to seeing - whether that’s tomorrow or later this year.
Made in LA 2020
As part of the biennial Hammer Museum’s Made in LA 2020, artist Larry Johnson has created five billboards in MacArthur Park.
Another participating artist, Kahlil Joseph, has created BLKNWS@ - a curated broadcast of the black experience of the moment which is presented in several small businesses around LA.
Once the city gives the go-ahead to reopen museums, visit The Hammer Museum at it’s Westwood location to see Made in LA 2020. Also see the artist’s works at The Huntington in Pasadena.
Yoshimoto Nara at LACMA
View the beloved works of Japan’s Yoshimoto Nara at LACMA. This exhibit is currently closed but we’re looking forward to when it's open - hopefully soon!
Bill Viola at LACMA
Bill Viola is one of two videos artists worth seeing. His Slowly Turning Narrative at LACMA is temporarily closed but we’ll definitely be taking a look when it reopens.
Pipilotti Rist at MOCA
Another video artists worth seeing is Pipilotti Rist’s, whose Big Heartedness and Be My Neighbor are at MOCA - open dates to be announced soon.
Harold Mendez at the ICA
Harold Mendez is a first generation American of Columbian and Mexican descent. He was born in Chicago and now works and lives in Los Angele. In his first Los Angeles solo show Let us Gather in a Flourishing Way, Harold finds beauty in the intersection of nature and man made, photography and sculpture and the real and imagined. Open now until January 10, 2021.
