Mark Bradford at Hauser & Wirth
Artist Mark Bradford was born and raised in East Los Angeles and has never forgotten the neighborhood that embraced him as a boy.
Signs from chainlink fences and endpapers his mother used at her hair salon, along with fallen billboards, newsprint and comic books are “the tools of civilization” layered within his abstract paintings.
Bradford is recognized as one of the greatest artists of his generation and is a true hometown hero, co-founding Art + Practice in 2015, which serves the needs of local foster youth and offers free museum-grade contemporary art exhibitions in its gallery space.
Mark Bradford’s show “New Works” at Hauser & Wirth in DTLA is open until May 20, 2018. Don’t forget to have lunch at Manuela, where you can sit beneath one of Bradford’s iconic map paintings.
